"Exactly what I expect from a Minneapolis ethnic restaurant. Small, hole in the wall-ish with the friendliest staff and a great atmosphere. The place was busy, but they were great accommodating us and the parking in the back was sufficient. Having lived ..." Full review »

Hubby & I had dinner last night at the Fridley location of Himalayan Restaurant which has only been open for about 4 weeks. It is in the building that used to be an India House, which, by the way, was excellent food... Full review »

A quick re-plug for Himalayan, this time because they were so accommodating of our crazy 7-person table, with 1 toddler, 2 elementary-school kids, and 1 beer-guzzling mom. We've added the shrimp curry to our favorites, as well as the onion-jalapeño pakoras. Oh and the samosas, with their tasty nigella seeds, are distinct from their Indian cousin... Full review »

Parking is easy around the back of the building and there is some parking on the street as well. I wasn't sure what to try here so I decided to chance the buffet. I got there with a colleague right at 11:00 so the food was nice and fresh... Full review »

The lunch buffet is what I have had here. Like the staff who always welcome me with a smile. Like that they have 2-3 decent vegetarian dishes besides lentil/beans on the buffet although the cooking is not fantastic. It's healthy and light. I like to get the wheat roti from the menu which is HUGE and I love kwati which is usually on the buffet. And oh yes, mustard greens are pleasantly pungent and fresh tasting... Full review »

Since it my first time trying Himalayan food I will say it's quite flavorful. There's so many spices lingering in my mouth even after I've finished my meal. You get a sense that you just finished a healthy yet hardy meal. I was too stuffed to go back for. The regular lassi yogurt drink is spiked with nutmeg which gives you a feeling of Christmas. I did care for their version of naan. It was dry and stiff... Full review »

Tried this place because of a Groupon or Dealstork voucher and glad we did. The Garlic Naan here is awesome. We also tried the Palak Paneer and the Chicken Saag. Both were flavorful and portions were pretty big... Full review »

Kwati soup! OMG Kwati! I had never heard of this soup before I came here a few years ago, and I fell in love. I scoured the internet looking for a good Kwati recipe and could not find one. Well, ok- that's not true. I couldn't find an *easy* one. The Kwati is a soup with like, 16 different kinds of beans. And they are all cooked to chewy perfection in some kind of magic pot they have hanging out in the kitchen on Franklin Ave... Full review »

Now this little Nepalese restaurant just off 94 with the extremely tasty food, it shines!!! The neighborhood is unremarkable, the 'feel' here nondescript, and across the street is an eyesore of a soft serve hut... Full review »

We went to Himalayan Restaurant for the first time this past Saturday. Since it was our first visit, we tried the lunch buffet to get a feel for the general quality of the food. It compares favorably to Everest on Grand, another of our favorites. The ingredients are fresh, plentiful, and the dishes are flavorful. The service was attentive and friendly. An excellent dining experience. We will be back soon!... Full review »

After doctor and dentist appointment we planned to go here for a take out. Had to find out where was the seward neighborhood. The area seemed pretty quiet and diversed. We ordered lamb tikka masala, good. Yak momo, good and kwati ( eight bean soup), good. It is right Nepalnese food taste like Indian food. I like Indian food and make me automatically like Nepalnese's too. I will say Nepalnese food is an Indian food with a twist although I don't know what a twist is. I like particularly their momo ( dumpling) the spices amount so right on the money... Full review »

We went for the lunch buffet. Good food!! A good variety of different flavors. They had some breaded vegetable things that were delicious! The rice pudding was very good, some potatos and okra...etc, etc. Food that I wouldn't think to try otherwise, but I got to try a little bit of everything! It was very reasonable too, as far as price goes. Very delicious - we will be back!... Full review »

It rocks! Delicious food, nice owners/servers and convenient place. Dining at Himalayan is our weekly ritual. We never tried its lunch buffet. But its dinner menu is great. Almost all of the appetizers are fantastic. But Aaloo Ko Pakora is phenomenal. The second best appetizer is Pyaazi. Lamb Choyala, Chicken Tikka Masala and Mix Curry are our favorites. Give it a try and you will find yourselves Himalayan fans immediately after the first time.... Full review »

Went there this weekend for a friend's birthday with a group of 16. The service was amazing, and they even let my friend's girlfriend bring in a cake she'd baked and served it there. I got one of two salads on the menu, with fried tofu and a delectable natural maple syrup dressing and walnuts. We had yak momos as appetizers which I highly recommend (like steamed dumplings). I can't wait until the next time I go back -- plus where else in Minnesota can you get yak?... Full review »

Ate here on a Saturday for the first time to try there lunch buffet and I was pleasantly surprised how good the food and service was. They don't offer a million items but what they do offer are all tasty and well made. Although this is a buffet the food quality is high. Their Naan was delicious, I'm not sure how they did it but the Naan stayed soft even after being on your plate for a little while. I've gone to some Indian restaurants and after a minute or two the Naan is rock hard... Full review »

Wow. I had been used to some subpar Indian food before checking this place out. This Nepali restaurant has very tasty, rich but not oily, and healthy tasting food (what a rarity). Entrees, appetizers were excellent. Only veggie options were scoured the three times I have been here so I cannot comment on the meat entrees. The sauces are their specialty so any entree would probably be excellent. Highly recommended... Full review »

Yummy, yummy food. I've been there twice for dinner and once for lunch. The lunch buffet was not spectacular when I went and was kind of lukewarm, but the dinners were delicious. I still think about the momo we had for appetizers! The palak paneer and chicken tikka masala are especially good. The staff are very friendly and the service is not too fast or too slow... I went here for the first time yesterday. I loved the kothe (fried dumplings), which were delicious, especially with the tomato-cilantro sauce on the side. Our main courses, bhanta aaloo (eggplant curry) and kataar aaloo (jackfruit curry) were both delicious---the sauces were light, fresh and not oily, and the addition of fresh tomatoes and green onions made the flavors come alive... This restaurant is awesome! I love the palak paneer, and also the kothe (dumplings). First time I ever ate any food with yak, and it was delicious. I've also tried the chicken tikka masala and thought it was quite good. As for drinks, I love the Himalayan coffee. It's coffee with cream and a great compliment of spices. There is definitely some cardamom in it, but I'm not sure of the other spices. If you are a coffee lover you should give it a try! ..." Full review »

One comment stood out when a group of seven of us lunched at the Himalayan the other day. "I've been to a lot of great buffets," said Sara, "but this is the best ever."
It was my second visit to the small, family-owned eatery located in the building that for years housed Big Olaf's. My first time was for dinner, and I'd been eager to return to check out the lunch buffet. Both times I was impressed. The staff is hospitable and attentive without being overbearing. The atmosphere, while nothing fancy, is entirely comfortable. Most importantly... Full review »

Great food, new outdoor seating
The vegetarian momos are so good with a fresh tomato-cilantro? dipping sauce. Another tremendous find is the tomato chutney on the lunch buffet. Fresh and Homemade.
A friend and I went to the Himalayan restaurant before attending a show at the Playwright's Center and were very pleasantly surprised. It's a 10!. What a delight to visit this restaurant. My friend and I went on a busy Friday night, but the customer service was stil excellent. The waiters came to check many times. Food was AMAZING! The atmosphere is very nice, it's a small, friendly, family owned restaurant with amazing food, nice atmosphere, fantastic service, beautiful decor.
