Now that their year-old Highland Cafe & Bakery in St. Paul is up and running, the owners are onto their next venture — Himalayan, a Nepalese restaurant in the former El Gaucho (before that, Big Olaf's) on Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis.

"The cafe and bakery had a few Nepalese items, and we had lots of requests to extend that part of our menu," says co-owner Naveen Shrestha, who was born and raised in Nepal. "We decided to just open another place (serving that cuisine)."

The owners have partnered with Nepalese-born Sarala Kattel, who will head the kitchen at Himalayan.
